History of Desert View Elementary
Bench with geometric patterns painted by students

In 1998, Desert View Intermediate School was created for fifth and sixth grade scholars in an effort to alleviate overcrowding at neighboring schools.  Initially Desert View scholars attended classes at the "Blue School" which was called this unofficially because it was a collection of blue portable buildings.  In August 2001, construction was completed on the 27 acre site where Desert View Elementary stands today, on the east mesa off of the Manzano Expressway.  In 2006, Desert View Intermediate added kindergarten through fourth grade and became an elementary school. Our school has a glorious view of the desert leading up to the Manzano Mountains, which is why it is named Desert View Elementary.
