Desert View Elementary is excited to announce the construction of a new canopy! This is an ongoing project on campus as crews work to complete the project. The canopy will provide our students and staff protection from the sun and inclement weather.

The Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts is hosting the 11th Annual Student Art Show! This year's theme is Enchanted New Mexico. 

Rules:

The Los Lunas Museum of Heritage & Arts is accepting submissions for the 11th Annual Student Art show. Dates for the show are from April 6, 2024 through June 1, 2024.

Eligibility:

Open to artists 18 years of age or younger living in Valencia County.

Entry Parameters:

  • Entries must be original works and may be any medium (e.g. acrylic, oil, pastel, water color, pen & ink, photography, ceramics, fibers and mixed media) that portrays the theme.
  • Abstract and non-representational works are welcome. However, works must be with the specified theme.

Submissions:

Artists may enter up to three works. Submissions will be accepted up until April 2, 2024.

Procedure to Submit Works:

Artists may submit digital or printed entries via mail, email or in person. We prefer to have teachers submit all student entries from their school at the same time on the same device, or collected together in a binder. If submitting printed versions of artwork, please include with them artist and title information on a separate piece of paper to keep your work anonymous for judges. If submitting digital versions of artwork, acceptable files include PDF, JPG, TIFF or MSWORD files. Please name digital files in the following way: (Name Title). Please label storage devices with the name of your school and teacher.

Completed Submission Form:

Printed photos, external storage device (CD or USB drive), or emailed file of submitted work. Note: Submitted photographs and disc will not be returned. Unlabeled photographs and storage devices will be disqualified. Artists with incomplete submission forms will not be accepted.

Delivery, Exhibition, & Pick-Up:

Artists accepted into the 2024 Student Juried Art Show will be notified by phone first, mail, as well by email. Accepted works must be display—or hanging ready and delivered from now thru April 2, 2024. Works will be on display April 6, 2024 thru June 1, 2024. Artists may choose to have their artwork available for purchase throughout the exhibit. Pieces that are sold will remain in the show until its conclusion. All sold pieces cannot be picked up by buyer until show closes. Pieces can be picked up on the week after June 1, 2024. Work not picked up will become property of the Los Lunas Museum of Heritage & Arts unless other arrangements are made.

Show Awards: (Elementary, Middle, and High School Categories)

  • Best of Show (cash prize)
  • 1st Place (cash prize)
  • 2nd Place (cash prize)
  • 3rd Place (cash prize)
  • Honorable Mentions (one per grade level)

The New Mexico Public Education Department featured Desert View Elementary in its November 2023 At-Risk Intervention Response Team Newsletter:

"Desert View Elementary in Los Lunas has invested their FII into providing their students and staff with much needed wellness spaces. Designed to improve self-regulation skills and decrease anxiety and depression, supporting student social/ emotional success is of the utmost importance. Featuring soothing lighting, textures and spaces for decompression, DVE is leading the way in NM!"

December Extravaganza

Desert View Elementary organized its annual Giving Tree extravaganza in December 2023. As always, the generous event is supported by the school's longstanding partners. DVE would like to thank them for going above and beyond for our scholars.
